Second Hand Used Franking Machines and Ebay Advice

Franking Machines are not like your typical piece of office machinery. To be able to re-use them you need to register the machine to be able to recreditit/top up the machine. In addition you'll need a Royal Mail license to use it. This whole reconnecting/re licensing process can cost a substantial amount of money and usually much more that you'll probably pay for the machine.

One recent problem is that franking machines are being listed on ebay despite being a 'prohibited item'. Most of these franking machines are either leased or rented from the manufacturer and when a machine is not returned to the manufacturer at the end of a rental or lease its listed as lost or stolen and will not be able to be relicensed.

If you get offered a second hand franker always check the meter / serial number with the manufacturer. This is the number that starts with letters followed by a sequence of numbers such as N12346567 or PB1234567.

Royal Mail 2010 Postage Pricing for Franking Machines

The Royal Mail have announced their UK postage pricing for 2010 and the good news is that customers using franking machines most prices are remaining unchanged. Postage stamp prices are increasing with a standard 1st and 2nd class small letter increasing by 2p.

These new prices increase the discount further for franking machine user to a whopping 7p for 2nd class small letter which is around a 22% saving over using stamps.

This is great news for businesses in this difficult time and is further acknowledgement from the Royal that processing a franked letter versus a stamped one is much more cost effective and easier to process.

Mailcoms have been successfully running this service for Neopost and FP franking machines for a while now and saved customers £000's and helped the environment on the way.

The Frama Mailspirit is a re-badged Neopost IJ25 but the ink cartridges are programmed differently to the Frama Mailspirit. Until now Frama Mailspirit franking machine ink cartridges have been unable to be reset but thanks the the continuing R & D of our technicians we are now able to offer this service.

Frama Franking Machines & Mailcoms

Its independently recognised that Mailcoms are one of the most customer friendly forward thinking Royal Mail Approved franking machine suppliers and maintainers in the UK.

As such we are constantly reviewing the best value we can bring to our customers and we feel that Frama equipment can no longer offer this best value to support our promise of 'low cost of ownership' to our customers. Frama's new range of Matrix Franking Machines we felt were not as well built as their previous equipment and use expensive franking machine ink cartridges that we understand are microchipped and may time out after 6 months even if there is ink left in the cartridge. In addition Frama are charging £60 per annum for re-crediting and forcing customers at a large expense to accept all postal Royal Mail postal rate updates even if the service service being updated was not required (including parcel force rates!!!). From our meetings with Frama we understand that if the update is not purchased and performed the machines lock off and become unusable. The cost of these extras are often hidden in expensive service and maintenance agreements.

Also, Frama UK Ltd posted significant financial losses in their last financial year and we are concerened about the long term prospects for this business. The dealer / distributor support has been very poor over that last few years, including having to wait over 3 months for vital replacement warranty parts.

As such Mailcoms have served notice to Frama that we will no longer offer our customers their postal franking machines machine from its product range. As receiving support and parts from Frama was always a challenge we learnt to support ourselves. Based on the amount of parts we have supplied all our customers over the last 3 years we have enough original Frama franking machine spare parts to last the next 20 years. In addition we have finished developing our own ink cartridges for the Frama Ecomail and the Mailmax and will be offering these at a much reduced price. Mailcoms are not reliant on Frama (UK) Ltd for postal Postal Rates updates and will continue to be supplied direct from Mailcoms as they have done in the past.
