What causes printing problems on the Frama Matrix F2?

The Matrix F2 ink cartridge uses two offset HP45 ink cartridges. Printing problems are most commonly caused by clogged nozzles from paper dust, or dried ink from extended periods of non-use or transit. In most cases, cleaning the print heads or shaking the cartridge will restore normal printing.

How do I clean the ink cartridge on the Frama Matrix F2?

  1. Remove the ink cartridge from the Frama Matrix F2.
  2. Give the print heads a good clean with a warm damp cloth or tissue.
  3. Holding the alcohol wipe enclosed with your cartridge (or several sheets of tissue paper) firmly against the print heads, hold the cartridge so the brass print heads are pointing downwards and away from you, and shake well. Caution: ink may leak — hold the tissue firmly against the heads.

  1. Check that ink is flowing evenly. You should see two sets of solid tram lines on the tissue:

  1. If you see broken tram lines or no ink (as below), wipe the print heads again with the alcohol wipe or damp tissue and repeat from step 3:

  1. If the problem persists, clean the brass print heads with a cloth and warm soapy water, then repeat the process above.

How do I clean the cartridge contacts on the Frama Matrix F2?

If the cartridge is flowing correctly but the Matrix F2 still fails to print or shows a contact-related error, the gold contacts on the cartridge may be dirty or oxidised. This takes under 2 minutes to fix.

  1. Turn the Frama Matrix F2 on and open the lid or top cover.
  2. Remove the ink cartridge from the franking machine.
  3. Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth, the alcohol wipe supplied, or a rubber eraser, rub the cartridge contacts briskly from top to bottom. Also wipe your finger over the corresponding gold pins inside the machine to remove any ink residue.
  4. Re-insert the cartridge and close the top cover.
  5. Print a test page. If the problem persists, contact Mailcoms technical support on 01543 572 776.
