What can you frank?

October 1, 2018

What can you frank?

You can frank almost any standard UK mail item – letters, large letters and parcels – with a Mailmark franking machine, and you’ll pay less than the equivalent stamp price. What you pay depends on the size and weight of the item, not what’s inside it.

UK mail formats: size and weight

Format Examples Max weight Maximum size
Letter Greetings cards, personal letters, postcards, bills 100g 24cm x 16.5cm x 0.5cm
Large Letter A4 documents, certificates, magazines, a CD/DVD in a case 750g 35.3cm x 25cm x 2.5cm
Parcel Boots, speakers, a coat, a desk lamp 2kg (printed papers up to 5kg) Length + width + depth no more than 90cm, with no single side longer than 60cm
Tube / Roll Posters, plans, rolled artwork 2kg (printed papers up to 5kg) Length up to 90cm; length plus twice the diameter no more than 104cm

Why frank instead of stamp?

Franked letters and large letters cost less than stamps, and Mailmark users get the lowest available rates. For volume senders, that difference adds up fast.
