Mailcoms congratulated for health and safety and welfare standards

In July 2023, Mailcoms was congratulated by Cannock Chase Council Safety Officers for the health, safety and welfare standards at its Cannock premises. During a site visit, officers were shown around by the company’s health and safety consultant and praised the standards across the site. Here is what happened.

Mailcoms recently received a visit from local Cannock Chase Council Safety Officers. One purpose of the visit was to update the database of businesses in the area and to determine which businesses fell to the Council to enforce health and safety, and which ones fell to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reports that in 2021, 565,000 working people sustained an injury at work according to the Labour Force Survey, with 61,713 injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR. In addition, 36.8 million working days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury.

Mailcoms moved into the packaging industry in 2021 following a shift in the industry from sending letters to sending parcels. Recognising the need for storage space, we invested over £400,000 in new facilities and operations, including £100,000 on the right equipment, health and safety advisors and infrastructure to keep our workforce safe.

Visiting Council Safety Officer, Sue Buckman, said:

When we initially visited the premises we were advised that it was used as a warehouse, so it appeared that we were the enforcing authority for health and safety there. However, when we visited on 13 June 2023 it soon became evident that Mailcoms manufacture and print there, which means that health and safety there is enforced by the HSE.

As we had made an appointment to meet with Mailcoms health and safety consultant, Chad Bott, we took the opportunity for Chad to show us around the site. We were extremely impressed with the health and safety and welfare standards at the premises and would like to pass our congratulations on to all Directors and staff.

We were very pleased to show the team around our premises and to have the hard work we put into our operations acknowledged.
