Essential maintenance tips to extend the life of your franking machine

A well-maintained franking machine prints cleanly, calculates postage accurately and avoids costly mailroom downtime. The good news is that most upkeep is simple: keep the rollers and sensors clear, run a daily check, and keep enough genuine ink topped up.

Clean the rollers and sensors regularly

Paper dust, fluff and debris collect around the feed rollers and sensors and stop the machine feeding properly. A quick blast from a can of compressed-air duster across the envelope feed area, once or twice a week, keeps everything moving.

Run a daily check

At the start of each day, confirm the date is correct and run a test print. It takes seconds and catches the most common errors before they cost you a surcharge.

Use genuine, approved ink

Low or non-approved ink causes faint, smudged or rejected impressions. Mailcoms holds Royal Mail approval for its own brand of franking ink – one of only two companies in the UK to do so – so you can keep prints crisp and compliant.
