Ecomail Printing Support

Changing the Colour Ink Cartridge for a Ecomail Franking Machine

Your Ecomail franking machine is equipped with an ink ribbon cassette having variable ribbon advancement. This variable ribbon advancement optimises consumption of the roll if you do not use the date and/or ad cliche (where permitted by postal authorities). When you reach the end of the roll, the franking machine will stop automatically meaning no more franking can occur. This operational state is indicated on the touch screen by “ribbon end – change cassette” together with an alternating bright/dark screen background. A repetitive, short audible signal will also indicate this condition.

To change the cartridge for a switched-on franking machine (do not switch it off), proceed as follows:

1. Remove the cassette

• Press door lock up and open the door.

• Turn the cassette grip to the right and down to the stop.

• Remove the ink ribbon cassette.

2. Install the new ink cartridge

• For the new cassette, remove the transport protection in accordance with the included instructions.

• Ensure that the cassette grip is at the stop position, right and down (the ribbon must be tensioned).

• Carefully guide the cassette into the franking machine with the coil openings over axles.

• Turn the cassette grip to the upper left behind and past the axle head to the stop.

• Press the door lock up and close the door.

• Touch the touch screen where it says”New Cassette inserted?”.

• Press “YES”. The ribbon is tensioned and returns to the last used working menu.

Changing the Fuse for a Ecomail Franking Machine

2. Disconnect the power cable from the mains connection.

3. Press the release on the fuse holder and pull out the fuse holder.

4. Remove the defective fuse from the holder and replace it with an equivalent fuse.

5. Reinsert the fuse holder until it engages.

6. Power up the franking machine.

If your franking machine still does not work, contact your franking machine supplier immediately. Under no circumstances attempt to open the unit yourself. We cannot accept any responsibility for improper handling.

How to repair the ribbon for a Ecomail Franking Machine

These instructions will guide you through the procedure for repairing the ribbon cassette for your Ecomail franking machine. You will need some tape and a small paperclip to assist in the repair. Use the instructions below to find out how to easily repair the ribbon.

1. Check for Ribbon to start the repair – With the cartridge positioned the way it is in the image to the left you should have a piece of ribbon on the right hand side but none on the left as in the image.

2. Slackening the Ribbon – With the cassette in the position in the image turn the small nipple anti clockwise as shown. (This will give the ribbon some slack to enable you to extract the other end of the ribbon).

3. Extracting the Ribbon – Using the paperclip insert it to the right hand side if the small black roller and try to hook the slackened ribbon and pull it through the gap.

4. Extracting the Ribbon – If successful in hooking the ribbon you should be able to extract it as shown in the image to left. Once again make sure it comes out to the right hand side of the small black roller.

5. Getting Ready for the Repair – Wind back in the excess ribbon so you only have enough to be able to join the two ends.

6. Taping the Ribbon – Tape the two ends together keeping them lined up. (Make sure you tape it so the ribbon goes over the metal bar as in the diagram).

7. Winding the Ribbon On – Wind the ribbon by turning the nipple clockwise a few times as shown in the diagram so all of the tape is wound well inside the cartridge.

8. Finished – Make sure the tape is tight so it can now be fitted back into your machine.
