Francotyp Postalia have finally launched the Postbase series of franking machines in the UK. We believe the series FP Postbase franking machines are designed to eventually replace their old ‘Optimail’ range of franking machines. The biggest change is that FP may have finally dropped the ‘Thermal Ribbon’ printing technology on low to mid volume machines which was never as good print quality as most of the latest inkjet franking machines.
The Postbase Franking Machine Series comes in 3 different types, the Qi3, The Qi4 and the qi6 with the Qi3 being the basic model up to the Qi6 which we understand features an automatic envelope feeder.
The Postbase franking machine range seems to use other technologies in the mid range machine such as coulour touchscreen and LAN connectivity which is commonly available now on most other manufacturers franking machines. The Postbase range also boasts a label dispenser but this may follow in the footsteps of the FP Optimail 35 / Ultimail / Jetmail labels where a box of 1000 franking labels can cost around £70.00 per thousand labels versus the Mailcoms price of £19.95 per 1000 labels. We are waiting for the dimensions of the labels and will shortly release a more cost effective compatible version.
With regards to the ink costs little is known yet of the FP cost and cartridge yields. At Mailcoms we are already working on a compatible ‘Royal Mail approved’ cartridge with more details to follow shortly. Click here for more information on labels and ink for the FP Postbase Franking Machine.
